Family members convinced Chevelle Payne, 29, to turn himself in on Thursday, and Payne confessed to the crime during questioning, according to Antioch police.

Payne allegedly approached the girl in a black Ford Mustang as she was walking on Mahogany Way at Contra Loma Park at about 8 p.m. on Jan. 21, police said.

He allegedly abducted her and took her to the Holiday Lodge Motel where he allegedly kept her against her will and raped her.

The girl escaped the following day and told police what had happened. They were able to identify Payne as a suspect, and learned he had two prior arrests for similar crimes, police said.

Police said Payne also confessed to a 2005 sexual assault against a minor.

Anyone with more information on the Jan. 21 case or any similar crimes is asked to call Detective Robert Green at (925) 779-6932.
