2.3 quake strikes near Alum Rock

The U.S. Geological Survey is reporting an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 2.3 struck Monday morning in Santa Clara County.

According to the USGS, the earthquake struck at about 4:50 a.m. and had a depth of 4.2 miles.

The quake was centered 5 miles east-northeast of Alum Rock and 9 miles east-northeast of San Jose City Hall, according to the USGS.
