The robbery occurred in San Anselmo at about 9:35 a.m., according to San Rafael police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher.

About five minutes later, a San Rafael police officer spotted the suspect on a motorcycle and began to pursue him, she said.

The suspect eventually ditched his motorcycle and fled on foot, according to Rohrbacher, who said officers were still out searching for him as of about noon.

The suspect was last seen on Southern Heights Boulevard, which is next to an elementary school and a middle school on Woodland Avenue, Rohrbacher said.

Because of the proximity of Laurel Dell Elementary School and Davidson Middle School, they were placed on lockdown, Rohrbacher said.
