At about 11:35 p.m., Oakland Police Department patrol officers responded to the 3500 block of Fruitvale Avenue to investigate a report of a man possibly down in the street, police spokesman Jeff Thomason said.
Upon arrival, officers found an unconscious man, identified as Antoine Crossland, suffering from gunshot wounds, he said.
Emergency medical personnel responded and pronounced Crossland dead.
Homicide investigators were called to Fruitvale Avenue for a follow-up investigation.
