Someone first called to report the blaze just after midnight, along Highway 4 near Franklin Canyon Road and McHarry Ranch Road.

More than 50 firefighters from several agencies worked for more than three hours to contain the blaze. "Very large, multiple agencies, CAL FIRE, Contra Costa Fire District, Rodeo, Hercules, Pinole, Crockett, east bay regional parks Marin County Fire Department," said Rob Van Wormer from CAL FIRE. No nearby homes were damaged and nobody was evacuated.
