Court workers protesting layoffs

In San Mateo County, dozens of court workers planned to rally to protest the expected layoff of 60 employees.

Last week, superior court judges held an emergency meeting. They said the court is facing a $3.8 million shortfall because of cutbacks in state funding.

Union leaders say an accounting error by the county court is to blame for the budget deficit.
