A car crashed into an apartment building in San Mateo late Tuesday night, causing an estimated $40,000 in damage and displacing a family of five, a fire battalion chief said Wednesday.

The crash was reported shortly before midnight at a two-story apartment building at 3180 Casa De Campo, Battalion Chief Mike Borean said.

No injuries were reported.

Two ground-level units were damaged, Borean said. The first, which was vacant, sustained the most damage.

A gas leak occurred in the second unit, home to a family of five.

Gas and water lines were shut off and the unit will be uninhabitable for a few days, Borean said.
