Link between taste for sweet drinks and alcoholism

SAN FRANCISCO

Scientists tracking 300 children caution simply having an ultra sweet tooth does not mean a child will become an alcoholic, just that there is a link between an attraction to ultra-sweet taste and a family history of alcoholism.

The study's authors believe the results could help scientists come up with strategies for getting kids to reduce their refined sugar intake.

The study is published in the journal Addiction.
