An Oakland native, Esperanza has lifelong roots in the progressive left and believes that increasing civic engagement among working families and people of color is one way of moving values of the social justice movement to the forefront of the national debate.

Esperanza is especially suited to lead the work of Oakland Rising with a strong background in political, community and labor organizing. She has served as the Political Director for Congresswoman Barbara Lee, Regional Field Director for Northern California for Barack Obama during the CA. primary, a Community Organizer in post-Katrina Louisiana, and a Labor Organizer with SEIU.

Esperanza currently sits on the State Board of Black Women Organized for Political Action (BWOPA) as a Political Action Chair, and is a 16th Assembly District Delegate to the California Democratic Party.
