Plan would tie future Muni prices to inflation

SAN FRANCISCO

The Municipal Transportation Agency is considering a plan that would base fare hikes on a "cost percentage index," a tool used to measure inflation.

If approved, the price of a Fast Pass would increase by $2 to $62 on July 1 and would increase again to $64 in 2011. The price of cash fare would increase to $2.05 on July 1 and $2.10 cents in 2011.

The board is facing a $56 million deficit. This plan would generate about $3.5 million over the next year.

The board is expected to vote on the proposal on April 20.
