Empty container removed from estuary entrance

OAKLAND, CA

The Coast Guard received a report at about 8:30 p.m. Saturday that the container had fallen off the ship Sun Right and disappeared into the water near the entrance to the Oakland Estuary.

After receiving the report, the Coast Guard blocked some vessels from passing through that area.

The container was eventually located about 200 yards off of Berth 38 at the Port of Oakland, and the estuary entrance was reopened at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Kennedy said a diving crew hired by the terminal operator at Berth 38 removed the container at about noon on Monday.
