Father arrested for suspected abuse of injured infant

FAIRFIELD, CA

At around 2:30 p.m., emergency crews responded to a report of an infant with shallow breathing and suffering a possible seizure, according to the Fairfield Police Department. The baby boy was taken to Northbay Medical Center and later airlifted to Children's Hospital in Oakland.

The infant's injuries were suspicious and appeared to be caused by non-accidental trauma. Police were contacted to investigate, and the infant's mother and father were interviewed at the hospital.

Officers arrested the father following the interview and he was booked on charges of assault on a child likely to produce great bodily injury, according to police.

The infant was reported to be in critical condition Friday.
