The fire was reported at 2:18 p.m. at the Heritage Inn at 410 West A St.
Firefighters arrived within four minutes and had the fire under control by 2:32 p.m., Bennett said.
A second alarm was called as a precaution but canceled before the additional firefighters arrived.
Crews were able to contain the blaze to the room where it started, which was on the second floor. That room was destroyed, Bennett said.
The room above it on the third floor sustained smoke damage, but the remaining 58 rooms in the motel were spared.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but does not appear to be suspicious, Bennett said.
