Flight delays do more than stress everyone out -- they also are expensive.

A just released UC Berkeley study shows domestic flight delays cost the economy nearly $33 billion. But it's passengers who bear more than half of the economic burden -- just under $17 billion.

The passenger costs are based on lost time and unanticipated expenses like food and hotel accommodations.

For the airlines, it's increased expensive for fuel, crews and maintenance.
