The group Wild Rescue had staked out the bird for weeks, but had not been able to catch it until Monday. They cut away the beer can that someone had forced around the seagull's neck.
A number of collared birds have been sighted around Half Moon Bay as well.
Rescue workers are urging people not to try to free the birds themselves, but to report the sightings to the experts.
