15-year-old juvenile hall inmate attacks officer

Just after 4:30 p.m. on the day after Thanksgiving, a 15-year-old juvenile hall inmate put a juvenile institutional officer in a chokehold at the detention facility at 1420 Natividad Road, according to the sheriff's office.

The teen began to squeeze the officer while demanding keys and the release of his friend in a nearby cell.

The officer began to lose consciousness during the attack but was able to radio for help before collapsing.

The officer suffered neck, back and head pain, scratches to the neck and was treated at Natividad Medical Center.

Responding officers restrained the teen, who was re-booked for attempted murder, attempted escape with force, assault with great bodily injury and assault on an institutional officer.

The teen had successfully escaped from the facility in August.
