"The holidays are a time for family and friends to gather in celebration of all we have to be thankful for and the new year ahead," Mayor Gavin Newsom said in a statement.
Newsom said he and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, wanted "to invite families from across the city to join us at City Hall in honor of the season at our Holiday Open House."
From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, City Hall offices will open for members of the public to meet the mayor, supervisors and other elected officials and department staff, the mayor's office said.
The mayor's office also promised holiday cookies, hot cocoa and live music by Magik Magik Orchestra.
Outside in Civic Center Plaza, children will be treated to a snow park from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., a mobile zoo from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and other entertainment, according to the mayor's office.
The event is free.
Newsom asked that guests bring non-perishable food items to support the San Francisco Food Bank's Holiday Food Drive.
