An off-limits scenic spot in the Bay Area may become open to the public. You may be allowed to go to the top of Mount Umunhum in South San Jose for a view spanning from Monterey Bay to San Francisco. The peak was home to Almaden Air Force Station, and has been closed for three decades. On Thursday, the government agency that owns the land will vote on a plan to allow visits with permits and docents in a couple of years, with full access in six years. Officials need to first remove old military buildings and secure millions more in funding.
