Storms force flight cancellations at Bay Area airports

At San Francisco International Airport, as many as 40 arrivals and departures from airports in the Midwest have been canceled, including flights in and out of Chicago O'Hare International Airport, which has only limited functionality today, SFO Duty Manager Bob Rotiski said.

Flights to Boston and New York have also been canceled. United Airlines, American Airlines, Continental Airlines and Virgin America are among the affected carriers.

At least three arriving Southwest Airlines flights and three departures have been canceled at Mineta San Jose International Airport, with more cancellations possible throughout the day, airport spokesman David Vossbrink said.

Two flights scheduled to depart for New York from Oakland International Airport this morning have been canceled, airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes said.

Passengers traveling out of the Bay Area today should check with their airlines before leaving for the airport.
