Quarry Lane School in Dublin raised $2,000 for the relief effort. The effort was spearheaded by Miss Stembridge's second grade class, which raised more than $800 on its own.
"Japan is having a harder time than we are, and if they get the money they can get a lot more stuff, to make their lives a lot easier," said.
Other relief efforts are underway. On Saturday, hundreds of restaurants, markets and individuals will be selling baked-goods, with proceeds going to disaster victims. An Oakland woman organized the nationwide effort.
A similar event raised $20,000 for quake victims in Haiti and students at Marinello schools of beauty are pitching in, as well. They will be giving $5 haircuts next Tuesday through Saturday, at all eight Bay Area locations.
