He is accused of molesting a seven-year-old girl in what is believed to have been a one-time incident four years ago when he lived in Watsonville. The girl's family contacted police in late April.
McLaughlin has been with the Salinas fire department for ten years. He is on paid administrative leave because of his arrest.
