The state attorney general says scams involving consultants, lawyers and others who took fees from people in foreclosure will be under scrutiny.
Corporations that bundled mortgages and sold them to the state pension fund will also be examined.
"Where there is the evidence to prove a crime, you can be sure those crimes will be prosecuted," said CA Attorney General Kamala Harris.
Also Monday, Alameda County District Attorney Nancy O'malley announced her own anti-mortgage fraud program. She warned of companies that ask for upfront fees under the promise it will work to reduce or eliminate your mortgage.
