The surveillance video gathered from homes along 34th Avenue in Oakland shows four young men running away from the yard where gardener Antonio Torres was shot and killed last Friday.
"The victim was in front of someone's home, conducting his gardening work when he was approached by four male blacks," Oakland Police Detective Mike Gantt said. "I believe some type of argument ensued and I believe this victim was robbed."
Police are calling the four young men "persons of interest." they are shown on various videos running, then walking, north on 34th Avenue toward Foothill Boulevard.
"Some here in the neighborhood...feel he was shot in the back," Lydia Rosas said.
The 42-year-old Torres was working in Rosas' yard when he was shot. She had just given him ten dollars so he could buy some lunch.
"Those four little -- I wanna call them 'punks' -- that did this need their day in court," Rosas said. "This was senseless."
Torres' murder was the first of five fatal shootings here in Oakland in the past five days. There have been 40 homicides so far this year, which is six more than this time last year.
