New law could make it easier to fix your car

This decade-long fight is coming to an end. Many drivers go to their dealership, because the dealer gets tools and guidelines direct from the car manufacture.

However, that can also mean not using your favorite mechanic or a cheaper one. Now, there is a new bill in Congress to level the playing field. It's called the "Right to Repair Act."

The law would require car companies to offer their computer codes, tools and safety bulletins to all auto mechanics -- not just dealer franchises.
