Will Brown sign ban of alcohol at self checkout?

No word from Gov. Jerry Brown on whether he will sign a bill that bans on the sale of alcohol at self checkout scanners. A 7 On Your Side hidden camera investigation found the scanners could be tricked into allowing sales of alcohol to minors.

A bill sponsored by Assm. Fiona Ma, D-San Francisco, would ban alcohol sales at checkout scanners. The Legislature passed the bill and sent it to the governor late last week.

"The fact is the technology without a human sales clerk intervening and checking ID and maybe smelling a person's breath who is already inebriated, no machine is going to check all that," said Sen. Christine Kehoe, D-San Diego.

Opponents say the bill is really a ploy by unions to keep the self checkout scanners out of supermarkets.
