Brandon Solem, 33, died on Friday, a day after the crash at 12:33 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Fulton and Stanyan streets, medical examiner's officials said.
Solem, a San Francisco resident, was driving west on Fulton Street when his vehicle smashed into the rear of a car stopped at a red light at Stanyan Street, police said.
The impact caused the car stopped at the light to overturn, according to police.
Both drivers were taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where Solem died.
According to his website, Solem was a web designer who also previously worked as a graphic designer for SF Weekly and East Bay Express. The 27-year-old woman driving the car that was rear-ended is expected to survive, police said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
