Missing girl found safe; no crime suspected

VALLEJO, Calif.

The search for Christina Almanza began Thursday based on a voicemail Almanza left for a family member.

Almanza was found at a home in Vallejo. When officers went to investigate, they shot a pit bull that police say attacked officers.

However, police say Almanza does not appear to be the victim of any crime, and two people who had been detained were let go.

"Investigators drove to a house on the 100 block of Bolton in the city of Vallejo to speak with a known associate of Christina. When investigators arrived at the home, they observed the 1999 Oldsmobile silhouette minivan that Christina was last seen driving," said Chief Ed Dadisho with the Suisun City Police Department. "It appears that we do not have a crime at this time, but we're still investigating."

Almanza's father and brother left the police station Friday afternoon after they were told that she had been found safe.

Police say she was tracked down thanks to an AMBER Alert that appeared on social networking sites.
