CHP investigating possible gang-related stabbing

NOVATO, Calif.

A CHP officer was taking the off-ramp from southbound Highway 101 to Rowland Boulevard around 3:40 p.m. when he saw a man standing in traffic lanes, CHP Officer Eric Hohmeister said.

The man, later identified as 39-year-old Edward Clark, of Fairfax, said the driver of a red Mitsubishi had tried to stab him.

Clark had visible stab wounds to his back, and the CHP officer called for an ambulance, Hohmeister said.

Clark then tried to flee but was caught after a brief chase and taken into custody with the help of a retired San Francisco police officer, Hohmeister said.

He was arrested on a warrant and taken to Marin General Hospital for treatment of his wounds. He was later booked into the Marin County Jail on the warrant and for possession of a controlled substance.

The CHP is investigating whether the stabbing was gang-related. Anyone who witnessed the altercation is asked to call the CHP's Marin County office at (415) 924-1100.
