Study: Why children wet the bed

A new study uncovers a surprising reason many children may wet the bed at night.

The bowels, not the bladder may be to blame, according to research out of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in North Carolina.

Undiagnosed constipation appears to be a frequent contributor to bed-wetting. That's because stools left in the lower intestine can push against the bladder and reduce its capacity to hold urine.

The study is in the online journal "Urology."
