Mark Lugo said he was sorry as he was sentenced Tuesday to one to three years behind bars. But he could be released in six months if he succeeds in a boot camp-style program.
The 31-year-old Lugo pleaded guilty Feb. 7 to taking a $350,000 drawing by Cubist painter Fernand Leger from a lobby gallery at Manhattan's Carlyle Hotel.
The Manhattan district attorney says Lugo lifted art off hotel walls, then used them to line his own in Hoboken, N.J.
Lugo spent more than four months in jail in California last year after pleading guilty to grabbing a $275,000 Picasso off a San Francisco gallery wall.
