The accident happened about 8:30 this morning. The CHP says the truck was travelling on eastbound I-80 between forty and fifty miles an hour when the crane hit the overpass. Concrete debris fell over two lanes of the freeway and those lanes were shut down for an investigation.
The driver either didn't know or didn't check his rig out properly and the crane was extended and ended up hitting the overcrossing, causing damage to the overcrossing," said CHP Sgt. Steve Lott.
The two lanes will remain closed until crews can determine if the structure of the overpass is stable.
