According to Davis, a 30-year-old man was killed on the 400 block of Larkspur Avenue.
The shooting was reported around 3:20 p.m., according to Menlo Park fire officials.
"We are not yet sure if today's shooting is gang-related, but the PD's Special Duty Unit & the San Mateo County Gang Task Force are deployed," Davis said in a tweet.
In another tweet he added, "We have made significant progress over the past 2 months in stemming violence. Today's murder is a stark reminder that our work is not over."
Police are asking anyone with information on the shooting to contact them.
