At about 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Michael Edward Greene Jr., 38, walked away from a supervised inmate work crew assigned to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, sheriff's deputies said.
Greene, a minimum-security inmate housed at the North County Detention Facility, had been in custody since February for miscellaneous drug-related charges, burglary and theft, according to sheriff's deputies.
Greene had a release date of June 2015.
At about 12:30 a.m. on Friday, the Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Team and Sonoma County Sheriff's Office discovered that Greene was inside a home in Santa Rosa, less than half a mile from the fairgrounds.
Officers surrounded a home in the 1600 block of Moraga Drive. Greene exited the house and was taken into custody without incident, deputies said.
Greene was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Main Jail, deputies said.
