Police responded around 1 a.m. to an alarm at E. Ruth Sheldon Elementary School, located at 1901 Woolner Ave., Sgt. Rob Lenke said.
Responding officers searched the campus after they heard glass breaking near the southeast corner of the school, Lenke said.
When the teens were located, they tried to run but were taken into custody, Lenke said.
Police found a broken window of a classroom on the southeast corner of the school and property believed to have been taken from the classroom on the ground nearby and at the front of the school, according to Lenke.
A school employee who responded to the burglary identified the property, which included classroom supplies, a camera and a computer, Lenke said.
The 16-year-old boy is on probation for burglary, Lenke said. Both teens were booked into juvenile hall for burglary and conspiracy and the 16-year-old also was booked for a probation violation.
