Officers responded to a 911 call at 3:33 a.m. from a 12-year-old girl at an apartment in the 2800 block of Soscol Avenue who said her mother had been stabbed, Napa police Lt. Patrick Manzer said.
They arrived to find the suspect, 42-year-old Carlos Everto Hernandez Vega, in front of the home holding a knife, Napa police said.
The officers told him to drop the knife, and he complied and was taken into custody, according to police.
Inside the home, police found the body of a 40-year-old woman who had suffered multiple stab wounds. Her name has not yet been released.
Based on interviews and physical evidence found at the scene, police arrested Vega, the victim's husband, on suspicion of murder, police said.
The daughter, who was not physically harmed, was turned over to the custody of family members, police said.
Manzer said he does not yet know whether Vega is the girl's father. No one else was in the apartment at the time of the stabbing, he said.
