His death is being investigated as the city's seventh homicide of the year, according to Officer Albert Morales.
Vallejo was killed Sunday and two others were injured in a dispute that started at a San Jose flea market and then continued on city streets where two men were hit by a car and one was stabbed, police said.
At 3:07 p.m. Sunday, San Jose police received an emergency call reporting that a driver had struck a pedestrian at the intersection of Snell Avenue and Capitol Expressway and then fled the scene.
Officers arrived at the intersection and found a man lying on the ground and bleeding, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators learned that two groups of people had confronted each other earlier that day at the Capitol Flea Market at 3630 Hillcap Ave. in South San Jose, Morales said.
Security officers at the flea market had ordered both groups to leave the premises, Morales said.
However the same two groups soon confronted each another again near Snell and Capitol and began fighting, Morales said.
A driver then struck one of the men involved with a vehicle, and members of both groups got into their cars and fled, police said.
A short time later, two men turned up at Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center at 250 Hospital Parkway. One was suffering from at least one stab wound and the other had injuries consistent with being hit by a car, police said. Both are expected to survive.
Officers later determined that both men had participated in the fight at Snell and Capitol, but their relationship with the man who died is not yet known, police said.
