DETROIT (KGO) -- A Detroit man has every reason to thank a hometown company for reuniting him with his beloved Chevrolet Corvette, stolen some three decades ago.

George Talley was stunned when AAA called him last week, telling him they had located his car in Mississippi. He had last seen it in July of 1981.

AAA told Talley to come and pick it up in Mississippi. He didn't have the resources to do that, so General Motors stepped in and shipped the car back to Michigan for free.

Talley's daughter remembers her dad's ride fondly. "I remember getting picked up from school and all the kids be like, 'Ohh Shelby, your dad has a 'vette? He's got a Stingray? He's got a corvette?' and I'm like, 'Oh yeah, that's my dad. He's the coolest,'" Talley said.

Talley says whoever stole his car kept it in good shape. The 1979 Corvette still starts and runs well.
