CHICAGO -- A baby was thrown from a car during a domestic dispute in the 7500-block of South Cottage Grove Avenue on Chicago's South Side, police said.

Authorities said a 46-year-old man got into an argument with his 23-year-old girlfriend around 2 a.m. Monday. The dispute turned violent when he allegedly punched her 7-year-old son and tossed his girlfriend's 18-month-old daughter out the window. The baby was struck by the car as the man drove away, according to police.

The children were taken to Comer Children's Hospital for treatment, where they are listed in stable condition. Police said the baby did not suffer serious trauma, but appears to have bruises. The boy also appears to have bruises.

Police took the driver into custody overnight and charges are pending.

Area South police are investigating.
