NEW YORK (KGO) -- Diane Sawyer will anchor her final evening of ABC's World News on Wednesday night.

Earlier in the day she tweeted a message that said: "See you tonight for my last night anchoring @ABCWorldNews - great adventures ahead!"

Sawyer is stepping away from the anchor desk after a five-year run.

She'll take on a new role at ABC, though details have not been publicly released yet.

Sawyer will be succeeded by David Muir.
