ABC7 Star Scholar: San Jose's Swetha Revanur
SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- ABC7 is recognizing seven Bay Area high school seniors for their extraordinary achievements and awards each with a $1,000 scholarship toward his or her college education. Here's a look at a [url HREF="http://abc7news.com/education/about-abc7-star-scholars/25733/" TARGET="" REL=""]ABC7 Star Scholar [/url]Swetha Revanur who's heading to Stanford University and is hoping to make a big impact on the world.[br /][br /]ABC7 Star Scholar Swetha Revanur gathers data to make impactful connections between technology and service.[br /][br /]She took a different approach to her valedictorian speech at Evergreen Valley High School's class of 2016 graduation ceremony.[br /][Ads /][br /]"I took a lot of L's in high school. That's sort of the slang term that we use for losses," Revanur said. "I got 29 questions wrong on a 30 question test."[br /][br /]Revanur has a passion for humanitarian computing.[br /][br /]"It's the marriage of technology and service," Revanur said.[br /][br /]Revanur is an award winning academic and already globally recognized for her data science research.[br /][br /]"The work I'm doing involves developing algorithms for precision drug development and personalized treatments for breast cancer patients," Revanur said. "I've become, I like to say a public spirited global thinker. I'm trying to use my skill set and I find I drive a sense of purpose and satisfaction when I'm able to connect with others and help solve their problems," she said.[br /][br /]"What I find impressive is that you have a young adult who sees this big picture who sees her ability and wants to impact the world in a positive way," said principal Lauren Kelly.[br /][Ads /][br /]Growing up in a place like the Silicon Valley where people are always using computer science and technology to help social problems, I've really connected with that vision and that mission and I think I've sort of started to incorporate that in my life," Revanur said.[br /][br /]"I took a lot of L's in high school. "Doing medical research using computer science to help the public health and sanitation issue in India, or using computer science to develop an app to promote tobacco abstinence in youth."[br /][Ads /][br /]"I've become, I like to say a public spirited global thinker.
