SANTA CLARA, Calif. (KGO) -- Some South Bay middle schoolers are catapulting their engineering skills to a whole new level. It's a school-wide competition and just wait until you hear what subject they're studying!
The rules are simple: build a catapult that gets a ball 30 meters down the field in the most innovative way possible.
It takes math, craftsmanship, a little improvisation and, of course, some duct tape.
These students are studying, believe it or not, history.
This is the second year the Magnolia Science Academy has done this competition, with all of the seventh graders competing.
"I just decided that we're gonna do kind of this project that allows them to use things they've learned in their math and their science and engineering courses - in their history courses as well," teacher Sean Moore said.
