ALAMEDA, Calif. (KGO) -- The fight against hunger is not taking a summer vacation. There's a sea of food bags thanks to Grocery Outlet and other food bank partners.
There are 10,000 bags in all, and 100,000 pounds of food to fill them with.
Pacific Foods, Annie's Homegrown, Snyder's-Lance, Inc., Keenan Farms, Campbell's, Clif Bar, GT Brands, Welch's, and Sun Valley Rice are a part of the effort.
Grocery Outlet's CEO organized all of this, calling in some favors from fellow business leaders to make it happen.
"During the month of July and August when food insecurity for families in need is the highest, we wanted to raise awareness and what better way than collecting food from manufacturers that we do business with in the Bay Area," Grocery Outlet CEO Eric Lindberg said.
The food bank is also putting out a call for volunteers this summer.
