Anti-gun violence video produced by local filmmaker creates uproar
A San Francisco-based production company created a controversial video online showing a teenager giving his teacher his parent's gun.

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- A Bay Area filmmaker's video about gun safety is creating a national uproar.

In the video a boy says to his teacher, "Can you take this away? I don't feel safe with a gun in my house."

San Francisco-based Sleeper 13 Productions created, funded and posted the video online. It shows a boy taking a gun from his mother's bedroom and turning it in at school.

One of the filmmakers says she sees the controversy as a way to get people talking about gun safety. Independent filmmaker Rejina Sincic told ABC7 News, "I'm not telling kids to take the guns and go to school and give it to the teacher. My message is pretty much guns should be secured away from children."

Supporters of gun-rights are outraged and some gun control advocates say the video is misguided.

Here are some comments people have posted on Vimeo:

David Toms wrote, "I am a progressive when it comes to gun control. I feel ashamed."

April Latham commented, "Please tell me you all meant this sarcastically and to be a joke? This is the most absurd thing I have seen in all my life. Just wow."
