Hundreds of children who are fighting cancer got a chance to put their battle behind them on Sunday.

Over 500 kids and their families were invited to spend the day at California's Great America as part of the annual "Courageous Kids Day."

The event is in its 25th year.

It's organized by the American Cancer Society as a way to allow kids diagnosed with cancer to have fun like any other kid.

"It encourages them," said parent Martha Castro. "It encourages and they can be kids because everyone treats them like there's nothing wrong with them. Like any other kid."

Along with the rides and a picnic lunch, everyone was invited to meet San Jose Earthquakes player Shea Salinas and park mascots.
