Woman finally receives letter lost in the mail for 83 years

New meaning to the phrase "snail mail" -- a long-lost letter sent 83 years ago was finally delivered last week.

Ann MacMichael's aunt sent the letter to Ann's grandmother back in 1931. But, it never made it.

A local post office recently found the letter and tracked down the woman's niece.

The nine handwritten pages detail the life of a 23-year-old woman living in northern Maine.

"The very first part I love," MacMichael said. "It's just so ironic because she said, 'I'm sorry I haven't written sooner. I just haven't gotten to it, but I know you've been anxiously waiting for a letter all week.' And here it is 83 years and it's just being delivered."

MacMichael now plans to forward the letter to her aunt's son in Massachusetts. She'll need to add more postage though -- the original mailing was marked with a 2 cent stamp.
