Missing Fairfield boy found safe, reunited with family

FAIRFIELD, Calif. (KGO) -- Fairfield police have taken a person of interest into custody after a boy was taken from his parent's car Monday morning.

Officials have been interviewing that man for the past several hours.

Brock was asleep in the backseat of his family car when someone stole it. "I was just distraught all morning. It was the first time I didn't know if my son was okay," said Suzanne Guzman, Brock's mom.

The family was relieved after their son Brock Guzman, 8, was found safe shortly after 8 a.m., hours after he was taken.

Brock was taken from Meadowlark Drive and found about two miles away on Dahlia Street.

Guzman's dad started his wife's car, loaded their third grade son into the back seat and went back inside. Then, Suzanne walked out moments later. "Just to go from the door to the car and it was gone," she said.

When she saw a bike on the sidewalk, her heart dropped. "My baby was gone and there was a bike there, so I knew someone took my baby," she said.

The following few hours passed in a blur. Fairfield police issued an Amber Alert and Brock's picture quickly spread across social media.

Then, a man on his way to work spotted the 2001 Toyota Corolla parked on Dahlia Drive.

Sky 7 HD flew over the neighborhood where he was found, which was less than two miles from the young boy's home.

Police found the Brock curled up asleep in the back seat. "The child is in the car, appears to be okay, just woke up," an officer said.

And minutes later, there was an emotional reunion with Brock still wrapped in his blanket. "I asked him if he was scared because that's all I was thinking is how frightened he must be when he wakes up and I wasn't there and he just said he wasn't scared," Suzanne said.

Nancy Munoz lives just down the street from where Brock was found and is thrilled the Amber Alert worked. "As a mother, I was glad, if that would have been my child, I would've been an absolute disaster," she said.
