SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Dozens of big name performers, athletes and politicians were in San Francisco Saturday night to celebrate the upcoming opening of the UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay.

Former San Francisco 49ers Joe Montana and Ronnie Lott were there, along with country music star Tim Mcgraw, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

The $1.5 billion hospital is an upgraded, more modern facility for UCSF. "We think it benefits not only San Franciscans, but people throughout the state of California, across the country and really around the world," UCSF Medical Center CEO Mark Laret said.

The UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay took 10 years to build.

The doors open at 16th and Owens streets on February 1.
