GRASS VALLEY, Calif. (KGO) -- Charlie, a baby goat badly burned during a grass fire in Milpitas has passed away, according to the staff at the Love Creek Sanctuary & Farms in Grass Valley.

A baby goat badly burned during a grass fire in Milpitas is recovering at the Love Creek Sanctuary in Grass Valley, Calif.


Charlie was making progress and was recovering at UC Davis, but took a turn for the worse and was let go.



The baby goat was among a small herd of goats that became trapped between the flames and a fence last month.



Most managed to escape with minor burns, but some did not survive.

A herd of goats that live and feed on a hill in Milpitas ran for their lives as a brush fire raced through the dry grass. Even though the situation looks dire, officials say all the animals survived. Here's a look at the dramatic video.


With support from viewers like you, Love Creek Sanctuary & Farms says they were able to raise enough to cover about 50 percent of the cost to care for Charlie.



The organization says they're now starting another fund in Charlie's name so they can rescue others in need. Love Creek Sanctuary & Farms currently cares for more than 60 animals.
