Investigators say road rage incident preempted I-580 shooting in Oakland
Investigators say a road range incident may have been the cause of a shooting on I-580 at Lakeview Avenue in Oakland that snarled traffic all the way back to the Bay Bridge.

OAKLAND, CA. (KGO) -- Investigators are searching for a black Mercedes after a road rage shooting that shut down Interstate 580 on Monday.

No one was injured when a car was shot at near Lakeshore Avenue.

Investigators said it started when the victims tailgated the shooter's vehicle then made a rude gesture as they passed.

The shooter then pulled alongside them, rolled down the window and opened fire.

"Try and avoid any kind of situation like this where you're making rude gestures and things of that nature," said Officer John Fransen of the Oakland police department. "Not that it excuses any of this."

The investigation caused a massive backup as Eastbound lanes were closed for about an hour.
