SJPD: 85-year-old sexually assaulted during home invasion robbery

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- In San Jose police are looking for a second suspect in the home invasion robbery of an elderly couple and the sexual assault of an 85-year-old woman.

It started at their home and ended when the suspects crashed of their stolen car at Senter and Singleton roads.

Police are describing this as a horrible crime involving two young men attacking two elderly people inside their home and it may be gang related.

Shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday CHP officers chased after a SUV when the driver and the passenger refused to stop. The SUV then slammed into a vacant house on Singleton Lane in San Jose. The passenger, a 15-year-old boy, was arrested, but not the driver.

A witness told ABC7 News, "He looked like he was discombobulated. He took off running, he ran."

Investigators then found out the suspects were linked to an earlier crime just five miles away.

San Jose Police Sgt. Jermaine Thomas said, "About 10 minutes later after we were here at this crime scene, it was discovered that we had a home invasion."

The suspects had apparently stolen the SUV from the owners of a home belonging to an elderly couple, both 85-years-old.

San Jose police Officer Albert Morales said, "Two suspects entered their home, armed with weapons. They were forced to the back of the house. At some point the 85-year-old female was sexually assaulted."

The woman was quickly hospitalized.

Police confirmed they found a graffiti tag painted on the back of the house, but would not confirm if it was part of a gang initiation.

A neighbor who lives behind them, told ABC7 News she found two spray paint canisters in her backyard Tuesday morning, supposedly tossed over a fence by the suspects. Police took the canisters with them as evidence.

Neighbors in the area are very fond of the elderly couple.

"There are no words to describe, no words. I was saddened this morning to hear what happened to her," neighbor Maria Anzures said.

Neighbor Marta Rosales says these people have no heart.

Morales said, "Obviously our concern is locating that additional suspect who took off on foot."

He's described as Hispanic man between 17 and 25 years old with a possible laceration to his body caused by the crash.
